Why the Isle of Wight?
Why the app is currently only available on the Isle of Wight
We are releasing the app on a smaller scale before making it available to the UK public.
We chose the Isle of Wight because it is a geographically defined area with a population size that enables us to evaluate the contact tracing and testing services effectively before rolling it out across the rest of the country.
This is part of the first phase of a large-scale, integrated contact tracing and testing programme, which will play a central role in how the UK manages the rate of COVID-19 transmission along with restrictions on social distancing going forward. This first phase will allow us to gain crucial insights and make any improvements needed before making the app available across the UK in the coming weeks.
When the app will be available to the rest of the UK
We intend to make the app available nationally in the coming weeks.
